How exercise helps cope with anxiety?

2020 has been a year of stress & anxiety, and I think the one thing that is helping me right now is my ability to zero in on my health & nutrition that corresponds exact to my biological profile.

I’m a female, considered to be in mid-life ages, of a Haitian descent, frame is small, standing at 5 feet 1 inch, a compact body type that makes me appear bigger than a taller person with similar muscle mass, and an x or what we call hourglass shape based on my measurements which includes my bust, waist and hip measurements (to calculate your body type you can click on this calculator and enter your measurements).

Arming myself with this information has helped to make choices about my food, exercise regimens and general health that align more with maintaining this shape while losing excess unhealthy fat and weight. While I am trying my best to maintain and sustain this new lifestyle, it gets difficult when faced with outside stressors such as anxiety. Anxiety can throw off the natural forces within the body making us much more susceptible to common viruses and infections.

In a time where many are using social media as a social outlet through apps such as Instagram, facebook or zoom to socialize with other, you can read or hear statements such as “I’m so stressed” or “this situation is a lot” or “I am being overworked” or “I don’t have time” often being made. I have come to the realization that while many are referring to stress as being the problem it is the anxiety that comes with it or even our reaction to it that is really the problem. The way we choose to react to our stressors can either deplete or help strengthen our immune system. Simply put, we can either choose sickness or healing by making a choice in our actions.

The current COVID-19 crisis is a perfect condition for cell deterioration. The feeling of anxiety alone will begin this deterioration. Every day I wake up asking myself “What can I do to help cope with my anxiety today?” which forces me to think of ways to take action. It forces me to think of way to remove the fear that I may be experiencing and replacing it with something productive and will help in working to restore the natural protective functions of my immune system. I refer to this process as restoring my metabolic clock.

The thought process behind restoring my metabolic clock comes from me thinking to do what the clock does and just keep going as much as possible each second. This is done by trying to do all things that will clear my blood of any chemical built-up in my system due to stress. I not only do this for myself, but I am sure to incorporate this method in the sessions with my clients, encouraging them to do the same. Some of these activities range from dry pushing my lymph nodes (underneath my arm, around chest, neck, shoulder, legs) before I shower to spending 10 minutes performing certain exercises that I find my body responds to. This helps both myself and my clients to cope and restore the natural genetic rhythm of our body.

If you are or your loved one is or have been experiencing the feeling of anxiousness, or stressed, please fill out this questionnaire. I will review and get back to you as soon as possible, setting up a consultation so that we can speak about how and what can be done to deal with those feeling. I will do my best to help you follow the instinctual messages of your own biological nature so that you can begin to improve your current condition.

Fabfitz is not a one plan fits all type of wellness plan. I do not use a one plan fits all because I believe that certain people respond very well to particular foods while others do not. I focus on the characteristics of YOU. My motto is that highly beneficial food and exercise can acts like MEDICINE, yielding healing in the body.

The best way for me to describe this stress/anxiety reaction is to have you imagine a mental picture of how the body responds to stress. During the one on one sessions, I am constantly imagining and sharing with my clients different analogies to help explain what is happening in their body. This has helped me and my clients in understanding the structure and behavior of our bodies.

When you encounter stress/anxiety, your body takes over. Your pituitary and adrenal glands pump chemicals into your bloodstream which causes your digestion to slow down. When you convert the bad stress, you are experiencing into a positive one with at least a 10 min workout your body begins to change again. It is during this stage that your body will calm down allowing you to release the build-up hormonal forces that was being stored in the body. Once this is done, you spirit will be elevated, and you will find that you are not as stressed and happier than before.

However, if you continue to feel anxious and do nothing about it, your body’s ability to adapt to the stress becomes exhausted then shuts down causing you to have trouble sleeping, not being able to fit in your clothes, knee pain, arthritis, depression and other illnesses.  A 10-minute session of working out will begin to reverse this. Here are some of what my clients are saying as a result of incorporating working out into their regimen in dealing stress and anxiety…

“I love this. Exercise makes me drink more water” - Valerie Hepburn

“If I didn’t have you I would have gained another 20, 30 pounds instead of lost weight because of the way my work environment is.” - Michilea Patterson

“With my profession it’s difficult to find time to workout, find time to eat properly, but, it really is no excuse. She helped me realize that and as I see my goal for this 3 month transformation she’s kept me on pace. She’s encouraging.” - Renard Owens

"I think I would have had a heart attack if it wasn’t for these morning exercise sessions. Now I’ve lost a few inches and feel more confident in my body. So, thankful I’m not letting stress wreak havoc on my health. Found a way to cope with quarantine.” - Melissa Jean Baptiste

As it is hard to get rid of stress/anxiety my hope is that this blog will encourage you to find ways to cope with it better. I’m offering FREE customized 10-min workout sessions for you to improve your condition. Begin by filling out this questionnaire.

Client Spotlight: A new perspective is all it takes!

I have been overweight all of my life. At a young age, I often stopped playing early in games that required heavy running and movements as it pained to do these activities for long.  The fear of being ridiculed or being excluded from activities sometimes forced me into pushing myself which was not necessarily a bad thing because it allowed me to get in some form of exercise. I was the only overweight child in the house which made it difficult for my parents.  They often felt that putting one on a diet while the rest were free to eat what they wanted was somewhat cruel.  I am of Caribbean background and I can honestly say that eating home cooked meals was considered to be healthy despite the amount of carbs on your plate.  Eating unhealthy meant that you were eating burgers, pizza, fried chicken etc…. but if the chicken was fried in the same dwelling you rested your head… it some how was regarded as healthy.  This was the dilemma. Around the age of 12 my p...

Train the mind the body will follow

I find that often times my actions do not match what I believe. I find that I often preach to others what they should be doing but in review of my actions, I am doing something completely different and sometimes even opposite.    I came to the realization that the reason behind this problem was that I was living to please others. What does that mean? I was busy caring about everyone else’s feelings and disregarding mine. I used to overextend myself, doing anything anyone asked to honor their feelings. I did not want anyone to think I was not nice or that I was selfish.   Losing weight is not that complicated. The formula for weight loss is actually quite simple, however we humans tend to like to complicate things. We make it even more complicated when we approach it with the need for instant gratification.    After working one on one with many clients and talking to hundreds of people through the years, I think I can say with some authority that the fa...

Think Positive!

When I  began to  exercise  after my pregnancy , I always  saw  the trouble.  A  very smart man told me that to transform my body I must see only the good. “You must always be positive, because your body can only do what your brain sees.” Here are some transformative thoughts to have - Remember you’re always choosing either one. Choose wisely! Instead of trouble I began to see opportunity Instead the negative, see positive Instead of bad, see the good Instead of can’t, say can Instead of hope, say I will Instead of self-doubt, feel self-confident Instead of second-guessing myself, I trust myself. Instead of dwelling on my mistakes, I accept them and move ahead. Instead of kicking myself for my last shot, I think about my next shot Instead of worrying about what could go wrong, I focus on what I do right Instead of being self-critical, I give myself the benefit of the doubt. Instead of pondering my weaknesses, I assert my strengths. Instead of thinking ...
